About
Wayside tells you what’s around you, and which way it is. The towns, peaks, lakes, islands and landmarks nearby, named in the direction they really lie, with how far away each one is. It works with no signal: about 280,000 places are built in, across more than 250 countries and territories.
AROUND
Open Wayside anywhere and the ring shows the places around you at their true bearing. Turn, and they turn with you. See the place you’re in, which way you’re facing, your speed and your altitude, and add places to My World with a tap.
LOOK
Hold up your iPhone. Look names the nearby towns, peaks, lakes and islands in front of you over the camera, with their distance, and draws the sun and the moon where they are.
JOURNEYS
Journeys record themselves once you’re on the move, even with your iPhone in your pocket. On the road, Coming up names the places ahead with a rough time to each. Every trip keeps its route, distance, time, top speed and the places you passed. Rename them, combine them and share them.
MY WORLD
Everything you find is kept, with the records it sets: the farthest place you’ve seen, the highest, the first. Open any discovery on Apple’s 3D satellite imagery and, where Apple has coverage, from street level with Look Around.
WORKS WITHOUT A SIGNAL
Wayside names what’s around you on its own, up a mountain, down a valley or in Airplane Mode. Satellite maps, 3D views and Look Around use a connection when there is one.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account. No ads. No subscription. Your location is never sent to Wayside, and there is no Wayside server. Sharing usage data is optional and anonymous.
Paid once. Metric or imperial units, light or dark appearance.
Wayside is made for curiosity, not navigation: every distance is a straight line.
