Worst Tool

Doesn’t work at all really, avoid don’t waste your money.

Good, but Could be Great with Updates

Wish it was able to be updated or modified by the user to be able to include more modern or customized setups. But for everything it does do now, it works great and I am not regretting the purchase at all, which is something that most paid apps just aren’t able to compete with these days. Thanks

Does what it says, but...

The app does what it says and allows you to change the agent. But, the purpose of changing the agent on....say, an iphone....is to not be limited to the “baby internet”. With web Captain, you change the agent but it locks you in “portrait mode”. IOW; the screen won’t rotate so even though you now have the “full” internet, you’re stuck with choosing to either stare a tiny letters or expanding the screen to where you can’t see the whole web page without scrolling left.
All your saved passwords are not accessible in Web Captain either, you need to re-enter them.
I didn’t expect this app to be a complete “stand alone” browser option, but rather an app that allowed me to change the agent on my existing browsers. I guess I should have paid closer attention to what I was buying.
So, it works as it should. I just didn’t expect to be (essentially) be adding another browser to my iphone.

Unlocks The Secret Tech Web

I use Web Captain to enjoy WAP mobile Internet which works well at 2G or throttled speeds. It has a variety of agents, and even tabs and bookmarks, but it needs landscape browsing support. The devs released an update in March 2019, so hopefully we can encourage them to add it. It has agents for search bots, game consoles, and browser programs to allow programmers to test how sites adapt to different devices.

Being a mobile user from the early 2000s, I know User Agent switching is one of the niftiest tricks on the web to save bandwith and get fast results on a slow connection. These days with MVNOs like Straight Talk and mega carriers like T-Mobile throttling users to 128k when they exceed data caps on "unlimited" plans, mobile internet slows to 2G or about what it was in the early 2000s. How we handled that was by using WAP or Wireless Access Protocol websites designed for those speeds. Many sites would adapt to the WAP version if WAP device was detected, and many still do because of inexpensive flip phones still on the market and some countries. A couple examples is Google and How Stuff Works. You can search using "mobile" category on Google WAP to find more WAP sites, but many of them have been taken down in today's web. Google WAP has search, images, and news. Also, send Google feedback while using Google WAP so they know it is still needed ! Google and Yahoo used to offer a feature to adapt any site to WAP view. Bringing this back would truly unlock the potential of WAP and 2G. Be sure to send Google feedback about this if you're interested. I use WAP Phones > Blackberry (Google WAP) as my User Agent and go to Google.

Why is there no option to clear cookies?

I would change this review to 5 star if it provided a simple option to clear cookies, instead of just clear history. Clearing the history does NOT clear the cookies. I have to uninstall the app and reinstall it just to truly clear the cookies. Dev please fix!

Response from developer

Clearing cookies is now available in v1.1! Thanks for the feedback! Let me know if you have any other feature requests :)
