Terrible selection, Continental philosophy, no science

If you’re interested in the foundations of logic, reason, and science (Analytical philosophy), you won’t find it here. The selection is beyond biased, comprised almost solely of Continental philosophy, useless for anything more than Marx, existentialism, and social “science”. The “philosophy” appears to be snippets from a quotation collection. This app is teaching outdated postmodernism, not philosophy.

Help

I’m not sure a free app has ever impressed me this much.

I was awed

Saint Thomas More

Why is he not found in this app?

Many links are dead and app is not updated any more

Brain rot

Full of lies and communist ideologies and white hate.

Good but clearly forgotten

Love this app. However, many links to Wiki or SEP are broken. Looks like the devs are done with it. Still really cool!

Nice app, but the Stanford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy feature is not functional.

When you click on the link to a relevant article on the Stanford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy, an error pops up. Very frustrating.

PLEASE UPDATE

I’ve enjoyed this app—with its easy-to-use, detailed interface, iMessage stickers, and “philosopher” camera—for almost several years, but I really wish it were updated for the latest OS and devices… specifically, the widgets. Having the widget only on the search screen on iPhone and sidebar on iPad is nice, but implementing the new home screen widgets would be more useful.

Also, there’s a bug on iPad where if you are in landscape mode while taking the quiz, the names are hidden behind the photos.

Sadly, the fact that this app hasn’t updated in over two years makes me feel that the developer has abandoned it.

Very good

I highly recommend this app for those interested in philosophy whether they are a beginner or not. Its design is pretty nice and similar to Twitter where you see philosophers’ views like tweets. Most of the philosophers have witty usernames that make you smile. You can see the development of ideas over the course of history and their relation to one another. The app also has a timeline to illustrate when a specific philosopher lived.

That said, I would like to point out that some Ancient Greek philosophers (e.g., Anaximenes, Anaxagoras, Democritus, Empedokles) are missing and it’s better if they are added. Secondly, not all ideas developed by a philosopher can be added to favourites. Those listed on their account page can be added whereas those under the lightbulb icon cannot.

Pretty neat but downplays Ayn Rand

There is more than enough material in metaphysics epistemology ethics politics and aesthetics that ayn rand discussed and worked into objectivism and this app only gives a very very shallow presentation of Rand.

I love this app!

It’s such an easy way to get into philosophy, but be warned. This app has not been updated in four years and is prone to crashes now. I still use it often because it is so informative!

This is perfect

Dude this app is the perfect thing for philosophy learners. It has everything and a lot of cool features. If you want to learn more easier, this is the app

Almost the perfect app

Thanks Brad for making this wonderful app free. I would suggest you to add more philosophers like Fernanado Pessoa, Oscar Wilde et al literature philosophers of the West.

Lovely

A beautiful app! I hope the developers can access the resources needed to expand it. I would love a feature for suggesting new quotes (for submissions that are properly cited)

Don’t abandon this app!

Incredible place to get bite sized content and brush up on different subjects. Please don’t let this app die in the dark- more philosophers, please! Maybe there could be an option for community additions to the philosopher database?

Incredible learning resource

Really grateful this exists with for free with no in app purchases, and such high quality content and user experience.

Help me a lot in my western philosophy class
