Your child's whole day, in one app — in your photographs, in your voice, in your language. And nothing leaves the phone.
Which First shows a child what is happening now, what comes next, how long until then, and what to do when a feeling gets big. One app, one child, one set of photographs, one voice — instead of a timer here, a schedule there and a feelings chart somewhere else.
WHAT A CHILD SEES
Now and next. The routine, one step at a time, with the whole day shown small underneath. Where two steps can happen in either order, the board asks "which first?" — and the answer is your child's.
How long. A disc empties as the time passes, so a child can see how long is left without reading a clock. Set the time you leave, and your child sees how much of what is left over is theirs.
How I feel. For the moments when words are gone. Your child taps how they feel, then how big it is, and the board shows what helps — a list you fill with things that exist in your home.
I need help. A child can tap it, and nothing moves on until someone comes.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS, YOUR VOICE
A picture of your child's own toothbrush, their own shoes, their own front door. Photographs are included so you can start tonight, but your own are better, and the app is built around that. Record each word in your own voice, so your child hears you and not a machine.
YOUR LANGUAGE
The app is in fifteen languages, including Vietnamese, Bahasa Indonesia, Hindi, Arabic, Filipino and Chinese. English and Vietnamese were written by people. The others were translated by machine and are being read by native speakers now — if you find a word that is wrong, write to us and we will fix it.
NOTHING LEAVES THE PHONE
No account, no sign-in, no cloud, no analytics, no advertising. The app has no internet access at all — on Android it does not even ask for it — so it cannot send anything anywhere. The only permission it asks for is the microphone, and only while you hold record in the setup area, behind your password. Never on your child's screen.
MORE THAN ONE CHILD
Each child has their own routines, feelings and photographs. They never see each other's, and nothing is ever compared.
SHARE A ROUTINE
Send a routine, with its photographs and recordings, to another parent, a teacher or a therapist as a single file — or keep it as a backup.
IT NEVER BARGAINS
No points, no stars, no streaks, no praise. Finishing a step is acknowledged, not celebrated. A day with three things left undone is a day, not a failure.
A SHORT INTRODUCTION
The first time you open the setup area, a five-page guide explains how to begin, in English and Vietnamese. Or read it first: utrendtek.github.io/which-first-privacy/how-to-use.html
Made for parents, teachers, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists — and free to any school or therapist who asks.
If Which First would help your child and you cannot afford it, write to us and we will give it to you.
