Cool Facts

Making long day trips to the country a lot more interesting.

I’m not much of a podcast guy… I prefer listening to music in the car. This is a good compromise for the whole family, and I like that I can adjust the frequency of facts.

New favorite app for the car

I drive a lot and get tire of podcast and music. This app solves that boredom with real world relevance that is useful and informative. It can tell you about your city or historical markers along the way you may have missed. The interface is also very clean and the voice is nice. Just open the app and hit go and wait for the tour to begin.

Homeschool Road Trippin

So glad this finally exists.

I’m the must-pull-over mom on every road trip for every historical marker, so this is satisfying my anecdote FOMO when my husband won’t stop.

It’s honestly also great around town and near home. I’ve been turning it on almost every time I get in the car.

My favorite part is the hum. I shush my family every time.

My favorite things

My two favorite things are GPS and Wikipedia. I drive people around my growing town west of Houston telling them about the good old days of ranching and rodeo. Now Whistlestop chimes in randomly. It’s usually telling about local history, as in the economic history of the prairie, but recently it told of a serial killer who had operated in the area. Now I’m waiting for celebrity stories to present themselves. There’s an academy award winning actress and major country and western star from here. And even though I choose the British narrator, I wouldn’t mind a southern comfort celebrity option like Matthew McConaughey or Dolly Parton.

Great cultural snapshots for trips, or around town!

I never knew there was so much I didn’t know about my own area! I downloaded Whistlestop and within a few miles of driving around town have learned so much about how my community was founded and how it evolved overtime. The narrator is really pleasant to listen to, and the commentary feels very high-quality and relevant to my interests. Fun way to make driving interesting!

Response from developer

Thank you for the review. We made it as an audio tour guide for road trips originally but it turns out to be really great for driving around town, especially in larger cities.
