WN is a white noise machine that uses the right method for each sound. The noise colors are generated live on your phone by real filters. The rain, ocean and stream are real field recordings. Nothing streams, nothing downloads, and it all keeps running with the screen off. SEVEN NOISE COLORS, GENERATED LIVE A noise color is a spectral slope, not a recording — so WN generates each one with an actual filter rather than relabeling the same file seven times. - White: flat and even, the classic masker - Pink: balanced, the one most people find easiest to sleep to - Brown: deep and low, like distant surf - Green: mid-focused, the band most nature sound sits in - Gray: shaped so every part of the spectrum sounds equally loud - Blue: bright, cuts through low rumble - Violet: the brightest, for masking high hiss Because they are generated and not played back, they never repeat and never develop the loop point you start to notice at three in the morning. REAL RECORDINGS WHERE RECORDINGS WIN Rain, ocean and stream are made of thousands of separate random events — individual drops, breaking foam, water over stone. Synthesis only approximates that, so WN uses genuine public-domain field recordings instead. Each one is crossfaded end to end, so you never hear the seam, and all of them are level-matched so the mixer starts out balanced. Fan and wind are generated, because a fan really is filtered noise with a blade tone, and a recording would only add megabytes. The whole screen takes on the color of whatever is loudest, so you can see what you are hearing at a glance.
