I love Whorl

This is a brilliant app. I have nothing but admiration for the makers of Whorl, this app has endless possibilities, whether you are professional or just trying digital art making for the first time.
Let your kids try it! Tell your friends and family! It is endlessly fascinating to work with, producing both still and animated images.

3D shapes app, Whorl

2025 Review: Whorl creates pretty kaleido-style designs and wallpapers. Not sure if I am a Pro or not; I would have purchased for one-time fee, but no "Settings" section that I can find. Only reason I subtracted 2 stars is that apps like this are too difficult to use in portrait-mode only on iPad Pro 12.9" in landscape mode, necessitating turning the entire thing sideways! What are these developers thinking? LANDSCAPE MODE PLEASE!!!

Can’t export hi-res image w/selected background color

As noted, the hi-res image only saves w/ transparent background. What’s the point of a pro subscription if you can’t export as you designed? You have to go into photos, select the image, go into a layout program and add fussily add back—if you can match it—the background color you designed the image with. And even if you do that, there can be artifact colors introduced from the copy and paste, so lots of touch up time required if you want to go forward. These transparent files can’t be placed into Illustrator without massive color distortions. I should’ve tested the Pro subscription instead buying outright. Waste of money. Wow.

I sometimes feel it’s more comfortable to use the app in landscape mode. Can you please add ability to also work in landscape mode in a future update?

Amazingly Creative App That I’d Purchase…

.. @£19.99

I almost clicked on the ‘Buy Button’ in the app today, but I simply cannot allow myself to pay £40.00 for it, it’s tempting, though.

Why is it so tempting?

This app has so very much creative scope for the iPad User that you can create infinite pieces of graphic delight to suit whatever frame of mind you are in.

I’m hugely grateful the developers have created such a cool tool, and I’d never want them to ‘give away’ their time for next to nothing as many people seem to think developers should - no!

I’m always happy to support developers who create a great product that receives intermediate updates and, most importantly, has great customer support - ‘Whorl’ has everything I mention.

So, what’s the issue?

Quite simply: an amount of £20.00 to purchase the app is more fair than £40.00. I imagine it’d also attract a whole lot more customers making the purchase, too. So, lower the £ & increase the custom!

It’s good but

Is good but should have free things so people can try more and have more fun with out having to pay

Poor image prints & no aspect ratio to change

This app has great looking images…as long as you don’t want to print them! They cleverly don’t let you create the ‘4K’ images without payment, if I had I would not have purchased. Wasted my £39.99 and not happy at all. Expensive app, brand new M2 iPad and printouts look really washed out, and trying to make an image a bit larger makes it much worse. I was hoping to get some decent wall art, but not a chance unless I collage many small images in to one larger one.

Plus, WHY on earth is video recording in 1440 portrait?? With no way to select ‘normal` aspect ratio. Who watches portrait videos on tv’s…..

Whorl fan forever

I recently took a long hiatus from creating art due to life’s challenges. I reinstalled it and now remember how much I love creating graphic art with this app. This app deserves more great reviews. I hope the developer continues to support it for a very long time.

Pfft

Lol. This app is so dumb, it’s literally the same shape with like a bunch of other patterns. It doesn’t do anything. All you do is spin it around

Love

Great app … can’t say enough good things about it.

Wow!!!

Whorl is an infinite trip of cosmic beauty and symmetry. It makes deeply complex and beautiful mandalas in motion. And it’s interactive in a way that keeps me engaged with the creativity of it. It’s deeply engaging and it opens my heart just to play with it!

I wish they would be a sale on the one time lifetime purchase

Would give 5 stars

If it was not crashing all the time after latest upgrade!
After another upgrade: still crashing…

Purchase once issue

I have updated to the most recent version and there’s are only 3 subscription plans (1month, 6months, 1 year). There is no option to purchase once. I have subscribed for 2 years now and would love to just to be able to purchase once. Any feedback on this would be great.

Other than that it’s a 5* app.

Still a mystery machine

This still looks like a very interesting app, which the developers recently told me now has a ‘one time’ payment option. Sadly, the cost of that option is not shown, and clicking anyway in the hope of finding out crashes the app. Why not just state the cost on the App Store page? Or is is so high that in these economically difficult times, potential customers would be put off?

Finally Subscriptions are not mandatory.

A very good looking app and it can make images which are very difficult to make elsewhere.
I was keen to see how much the outright purchase was but the app crashes when I tap the IAP.
IT also crashed when I gave it permission to the Camera Roll but at least the setting took because it lets me import now.
Don’t forget to change the IAP description in the app store entry.

Ruined by greed

A great little app completely ruined by the insanely expensive subscription model

The lack of progress is real

I would have thought that in the year since I subscribed that there would be some improvements; new shapes, new styles, better export options (especially for video), et cetera. While the app is fun, there have been no changes whatsoever in a long time. It doesn’t represent good value for money. The idea of subscription software is that the developer can continually add features and people decide whether it’s worth staying subscribed. In this instance I would definitely say that there is nothing keeping me here, I’ve tried every combination and now that it’s apparent that the app isn’t going to improve I’m moving on.

Requires subscription

I would pay for this app—once. Subware? Never.

Excellent!

An amazing app that offers endless possibilities. Just bring your creativity and imagination and Whorl will do the rest. Fun, easy and brings a ton of elegant combinations to the table.
