Who's the Imposter? Party Game

Everyone gets the secret word. One player gets nothing. That player has to bluff their way through the conversation without ever knowing what the group is talking about. Everyone else has to work out who is faking. One round takes a few minutes. Nobody needs to read a rulebook. HOW A ROUND WORKS 1. Pick a word pack and set how many imposters are hiding. 2. Everyone sees the secret word. The imposter sees a blank. 3. Take turns giving one clue each, then talk it out. 4. Vote, uncover the imposter, and argue about it. Play again. TWO WAYS TO PLAY • One phone, passed around - hand the device from player to player. No second device, no setup, no connection needed to deal the round. • Online rooms - open a room and let everyone join from their own phone. Same game, different table. YOU CONTROL THE ROUND • Number of imposters - one for a small group, more for a crowded room • Blank card - add a player who knows they know nothing • Show role or hide it - reveal who was who at the end, or keep it a mystery • Group size scales from a few players to a full room 23 WORD PACKS Start with four free packs: Mystery, Animals & Nature, Daily Life, and Food. Mixed group? Everyone can read the same round in their own language. COMMON QUESTIONS Q. How many imposters can be hiding? A. The host sets the number before the round deals. One imposter suits a small group; turn it up when the table gets crowded and let them work blind alongside each other. Q. What does the blank card do? A. It adds a player who knows they know nothing. They are not the imposter, they simply have no word, which means the group now has two confusing people to sort out instead of one. Q. Can we keep the roles secret at the end? A. Yes. Reveal who was who after the vote, or switch the reveal off and let the table keep arguing about it into the next round. Q. Which word packs cost nothing? A. Mystery, Animals & Nature, Daily Life and Food are open from the first round. The other nineteen unlock separately. A FEW THINGS THAT MAKE ROUNDS BETTER • Give a clue that is true but useless. That is the whole art. • A clue that is too good makes you look like you are proving something. • Ask a direct question. The challenge is answering one without the word. • Going first is safer. Going last is harder than it looks. • The quiet player is not always the imposter. Usually. Sometimes. FOR BIGGER GROUPS Large rooms play differently. With more people at the table, one imposter disappears into the noise, so turn the count up and let two of them try to cover for each other without knowing they are on the same side.
