About

The moment your hands are free they go there. Twenty minutes later you are trying to remember what you came for, and you cannot, because there was never anything to remember. Nobody decided to go. why? puts one question in the way. Not "don't". Just "why". WHAT HAPPENS You choose the apps you open without thinking. Tapping one then shows a question before it opens: INSTAGRAM Why are you opening it? Find something · Check messages · I don't know Never mind Pick an answer and you are in, for fifteen minutes. Pick "Never mind" and nothing opens. Either way it takes about two seconds. THE SAME GOAL, A DIFFERENT METHOD Every app here wants the same thing for you: less of the scrolling nobody chose. They differ in how they get it. Blockers say no, and you win that fight eventually, because you always do. Others make you wait: a breath, a sum, a circle filling. But a breath becomes automatic, and so does the arithmetic, and a few weeks in you are doing them without waking up, which is the exact state they were built to interrupt. why? asks instead. Only you know what you came for, and the answer is different every time, so there is nothing to learn your way through. Noticing is the whole intervention. THREE ANSWERS YOU CAN ACTUALLY GIVE "Post" and "reply" are aims. Half a second before a scroll, nobody is doing either. So the three offered are the ones anyone can pick standing at the door: Instagram: Find something, Check messages, I don't know TikTok: Find something, Kill time, I don't know Safari: Look something up, Work, I don't know Each app keeps its own three. Rewrite them any time. "I DON'T KNOW" IS A REAL ANSWER It is on every app on purpose, it is usually the true one, and picking it opens the app like any other. Nothing to feel bad about, nothing to confess. Reading it and recognising yourself is already the whole intervention. CHANGED MINDS IS THE ONLY SCORE Not minutes saved, not a focus rating, not a streak. The number worth watching is how often you reached the question and decided you did not need to go in after all. Every one of those is time handed back to you. The same total as the one on everybody else's chart, counted by the decisions you made rather than the hours you lost. Today's figures and the last seven days are on one screen. That is the whole of the reporting. NOTHING ABOUT YOUR PHONE LEAVES IT No account. No sign up. No ads. No tracking. why? cannot even read which apps you picked: iOS hands it sealed tokens rather than names, and everything it records about them stays on your phone. FREE AND PRO why? asks about two apps for free. Writing your own answers, today's figures and the last seven days come with either one. Pro removes the two-app limit. Yearly starts with a 7-day free trial. Monthly and Yearly are auto-renewable subscriptions. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. A subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of that period. Manage or cancel in Settings after purchase. Lifetime is a single payment and does not renew. Terms of Use: https://www.commalabs.co/why/terms Privacy Policy: https://www.commalabs.co/why/privacy Terms of Use (EULA): https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/ REQUIREMENTS Requires Screen Time access, which iOS asks for during setup and you can withdraw any time. Showing all three answers together needs iOS 26.4 or later; on earlier versions the question still appears with one answer and a way back. Fifteen minutes is the shortest access window Apple's system will accept. No app can offer a shorter one. Use whatever apps you want. Just notice that you are about to.
