What's New in Wild Noise

1.37

October 26, 2026

Wild Noise 1.37 brings what you asked for: a journal of your sightings, your own photos and a map of where each species lives. It also introduces Otus, your owl guide. JOURNAL AND SIGHTINGS • A new Journal tab lists your sightings by day. Every bird Wild Noise identifies becomes one, marked as heard • Mark it as seen, add a note, replay your recording and the reference song, or read Wikipedia. Correct it with "Not right?", remove it, or discard a whole session from its report • "I saw a bird" logs a bird by hand in one step: species likely near you first, or search them all. Choose seen, heard or both, then the date, a note and photos YOUR OWN PHOTOS • Add them from the photo picker (no library access needed), the camera on iPhone and iPad, or a file on Mac • An old photo brings its date and place, so you can log past sightings • Your newest photo becomes the bird's Wild Dex card. Photos stay on your device and are not synced • Visual Look Up works on your photos on iOS 17 and macOS 14 or later, where Apple offers it THE MAP • A full-screen Map tab. Search a species (free) to see where it lives this season or all year, in areas marked common, uncommon or rare, from offline GBIF data • Find a place by name; pins for your own sightings are Pro MEET OTUS • An animated owl made from the app icon. He gives a first-launch tour, cheers new species and badges, shares Wikipedia facts and reacts in the quiz • His babble voice, and Otus himself, can be turned off in Settings. He is silent while the microphone listens ALSO NEW • Seven tabs: Wild Dex, Journal, Map, Listen, Challenges, Quiz and Tools. Journal search, filter and export (Pro) moved to Tools • Night Watch has a true-black screen with dim red text • The Pro screen shows the price up front, one payment with no subscription, and lists what stays free • Live listening leaves out species that cannot occur where and when you are, even with only your time zone. Zoo animals and misdated seasonal records were removed from the range data • Quiz answers fill the screen with whole photos, the spectrogram is smoother, Listen says "No bird heard yet" after a quiet minute, and the owl in the corner is bigger Thank you for listening with us. If Wild Noise helps you hear something new, a rating means a lot.
