WIMEC is a standardized hypoplastic thumb functionality score designed for very young and non-cooperative patients. Based on five anatomical factors score of 0 to 25 is given.
(W) the first web space opening
(I) intrinsic function, mainly the ability to oppose
(M) the stability of the metacarpophalangeal (MP) joint
(E) extrinsic function and anomalies.
(C) stability and mobility of the carpometacarpal (CMC) joint
It can be used to evaluate pre- and postoperative results. It provides a clear and objective score for the comparison of outcomes of different groups and techniques.
