FAQ
What is Window Cooling Forecast?
Window Cooling Forecast is a utility app that helps you determine the best times to open your windows for natural cooling. It analyzes indoor and outdoor air conditions using enthalpy to advise when outside air can effectively reduce your cooling costs.
How does Window Cooling Forecast work?
The app calculates the difference in enthalpy (a measure of air's total heat content, including temperature and humidity) between indoor and outdoor air. When outdoor enthalpy is lower, it indicates a good opportunity for cooling by opening windows.
Can I manually input my home's temperature and humidity?
Yes, you can manually enter the temperature and humidity for both indoor and outdoor air. This is useful if you have a smart thermostat like Nest or Ecobee that provides this data.
Does Window Cooling Forecast use my location?
The app can query Apple Weather using your location to obtain outdoor temperature and humidity data. For more precise readings, it's recommended to use dedicated sensors.
What sensors are compatible with Window Cooling Forecast?
For its initial release, the app supports low-cost Govee hygrometers, which can transmit temperature and humidity data to the app via Bluetooth LE. You can use two sensors for indoor and outdoor readings.
What is the forecast duration for Window Cooling Forecast?
Window Cooling Forecast provides a 12-hour forecast, giving you ample time to plan when to open your windows for effective cooling.
Is Window Cooling Forecast available on all devices?
Window Cooling Forecast is currently available for iPhone and iPad, as indicated by its supported devices list.
