Winter Tree ID

Great photos. It’d be nice to have more detailed descriptions of the various attributes and comparisons with similar species. FYI, I am using this app in/for Canada as we have most of these UK trees in our parks, ravines, and along our streets. Thanks!

FAQ

What is Winter Tree Id?

Winter Tree Id is a field guide designed to help users identify trees found in the British Isles during the winter months. It utilizes a comprehensive approach, focusing on characteristics visible when trees have no leaves, flowers, or fruits.

What kind of trees can I identify with this app?

The app covers all native British tree species as well as naturalised species. It provides detailed anatomical and ecological information for each, accompanied by high-quality images.

How does the identification process work?

The app employs the KUSAM species identification methodology, a modern taxonomic keying system designed for mobile devices. This allows for accurate identification based on winter characteristics.

Does the app require an internet connection?

No, the app does not require an internet connection. All content is downloaded when the app is purchased, making it usable offline in the countryside.

What are the additional features of the app?

Beyond identification, the app includes a mapping screen to record your tree sightings, which can be shared with other users. It also features a quiz to improve your identification skills and compete for high scores.
