Winterwood: Tree Identifier

Winterwood names a tree from a photograph — and keeps working when the photograph fails. Every other plant app is built on leaves. From November to March there are no leaves, and their accuracy collapses. Winterwood reads the characters that are still there: bark, buds, leaf scars, twig structure and branching pattern. IDENTIFY BY PHOTO Point at bark, a bud, a leaf or the whole tree. You get a name, how confident the answer is, and the characters it actually read — so you can check the reasoning instead of trusting a label. IS IT SICK, OR JUST AUTUMN? Photograph a leaf, the bark, the fruit or the roots and ask what is wrong. You get the likely cause, what the photo actually shows, and what to do about it — pruning, watering, clearing fallen leaves. It also tells you when nothing is wrong: autumn colour and lichen are not diseases. No pesticide is ever named; what is approved differs by country and a wrong dose harms the tree. FOLLOW YOUR OWN TREES Add the walnut by the gate or row 3 in the orchard. Every check you save builds a record, and the app tells you whether it is getting better or worse. WALK THE KEY — FREE AND OFFLINE When there is no signal, or the photo is not enough, the key asks you one question at a time: opposite or alternate buds? How many bud scales? What does the bark do? Each answer narrows the list. "I can't tell" is always allowed. WHAT IT WILL NOT DO It will not tell you whether anything is edible or medicinal. Identification from a photograph is not certain enough to eat on, and Winterwood will not pretend otherwise.
