Does not work anymore.
I used this for years & it worked great. I tried opening it about May 2025 as usual, “Time to sunburn”, “Compute” with the default “Skin Type:” the default of all. It shows the computed values briefly & immediately crashes.
Tried it again same year, once in June and once in July hoping that it got fixed, but it still crashes.

Now working again (09-07-2022)
I have just returned to remove my recent review saying that this usually very reliable app had suddenly stopped providing any data no matter which category I chose… As of today, Saturday July 9th, all data I request is being provided again, thank you. Here in the U.K. we are currently being exposed to very high UVI levels (8!) that I have only been exposed to when on holiday in the Mediterranean countries where very UVI levels can be expected at this time of year. I am so glad to now be able to continue using the excellent Wolfram Sun app as a tool in my sun awareness/protection toolbox! Thorvald (pronounced Tourval…)

Exactly what I needed
This is an amazing little app, especially for the price I payed. I don’t like to spend crazy amounts of time in the heat, but I also enjoy having a tan. I use this to figure out when is the best time to go out, get some quick sun and go back in. It’s also great for those who those who want to avoid too much sun exposure. Ps. Always remember to wear SPF 15+

Useful app
Gives you a great overview of how harsh the sun is and the kind of protection you will need. If you're as pale as I am, it's a must. Very easy to use.

Ghastly interface, no user presets
Nice idea but very, very poorly executed. The input tables are a mess and it doesn't remember your preferences you have to re-enter and re-calculate each time.

The app does everything it says, but it's useless in NZ and horrible to use.
Anytime between 9 and 5, expect sunburn. There's a section for comparing different sunscreen SPFs but any of the options seem to make 'sunburn unlikely'.
The app could be generously described as 'functional', meaning it's unnecessarily clunky and the graphs suck. I'm glad the scale lets us see time-to-sunburn at midnight, but might it not be more sensible to zoom in on the section where people get sunburnt?

Useless
It takes considerable talent to make an app this bad. You enter in data, from pull down lists, press compute, and the app says it doesn't understand your input - the same input it gave you!

In Australia at least. Which is a significant improvement on other apps that claim global coverage. Also supplies a HUGE amount of data. Love it.
A couple of minor bugs in places. Today it showed a moderate exposure warming for a 13 UV day in Melbourne. It didn't seem to update that display when I changed the time. But all the figures and sunburn advice were accurate. And the map is amazing.
It would be fantastic to be able to zoom into the daily graph. Can't seem to do that.

UV +
I've tried three UV forecasting apps, one costing £1.49 which was truly dreadful and simply didn't work. The second was free and was good for a quick reference. This app at £0.69 gives me highly accurate forecasts, which I need to know and understand in order to protect my already damaged eyes, but in addition their is a treasure chest of additional weather related information including historical data.

Needs Internet for any request, few graphics.
Data can be stored by app for short term recall (up to week), the sunrise/sunset prediction is good for months.
Graphics barely used, so can't read info at a glance.
Detail of info is excellent, but ease of usability is very, very low.

handy
i dislike the sun. this app helps me avoid it. really though, this little gem of an app is simple, thorough, and quite detailed in its calculations. i solidly recommend it to anyone looking to avoid skin cancer or burning flesh. no one likes burning flesh.
Good info, laggy info input
I like the info & useful advice on SPF. It does, however, lag quite heavily when you input info. Also, it would be useful to have your info saved as a default for skin type, day in advance, ect.
No More Sunburn for Mathemagicians!
This app is one pretty *cool* collection of essential utilities, some of which I do not have already ... not only can I now compute how safe it is to work outside, but to get the current weather in a mathematic app is really *Cool* plus gaining the expertise to see the sun-earth-moon configuration is breathtaking. Seriously, this is one of many apps from Wolfram that I have on my iPad and access almost daily. When the school year returns, access will then become daily.
