About
WordBook turns books into puzzles.
Pick a book — one of ten public-domain classics on the shelf, one of the sixty thousand in the online library, or an EPUB of your own. WordBook cuts it into passages, and gives you twenty different ways to put each one back together.
TWENTY WAYS TO READ
Reorder the sentences. Reorder the paragraphs. Swap the words back. Unscramble the anagrams. Fill the blanks. Strike the line that does not belong. Restore the substituted letters. Twenty puzzle types, all of them generated from the real text — never from filler.
Finish every passage of a book in one puzzle type and that type counts as read. Twenty ways through, twenty times a book can be finished.
YOUR OWN LIBRARY
Ten classics are bundled: Alice, Frankenstein, Pride and Prejudice, Sherlock Holmes, The Great Gatsby, Peter and Wendy, Grimm's Household Tales, Dorian Gray, The Time Machine, The Wizard of Oz.
Beyond those, browse Project Gutenberg's sixty thousand public-domain books and download any of them, or import an EPUB you already have. Your books stay on your device.
A DAILY CHALLENGE
One passage a day, the same one for everybody and free for everybody, with a streak that counts up as long as you keep coming back.
MADE FOR IPHONE DUO
Folded, it is the app you know. Opened, the book opens with it: the passage you are putting back on the right-hand page, the prose that leads up to it on the left, and nothing you need to touch ever sitting on the crease.
READ IT ALOUD
When a passage is back together, the book opens on it — and it can be read to you in a natural neural voice over the network, or in the device's own voice when there is none. Choose the voice yourself: hundreds of them, in over a hundred languages, set per language and, where a book deserves an exception, per book. Tap once, or set every page to start on its own.
QUIET BY DESIGN
No accounts. No sign-in. No analytics. No advertising. No third-party tracking. There is no server of ours for anything to be sent to. The only things that use the network are browsing the online library and, while it reads a passage aloud, the voice service — everything else works entirely offline.
Reading size, difficulty, sound and a parchment or night theme are all adjustable. Statistics, fourteen achievements and a commonplace book for the lines worth keeping.
FREE AND FULL
Free: one bundled classic, all twenty puzzle types, five passages a day, the daily challenge, plus statistics, achievements and the commonplace book.
Full version: a one-time purchase that opens the other nine classics, unlimited passages, EPUB importing, the online library, and saving a favourite line as a card. Not a subscription — nothing renews.
Every text in WordBook is in the public domain.

1.5.0
October 24, 2026
Made for iPhone Duo. Folded, WordBook is the app you know on the outer screen. Open it and the book opens too: the passage you are putting back on the right-hand page, the prose leading up to it on the left, and nothing you need to touch ever on the crease. Stood half-open on a table, the board takes the top half and the book the bottom. The daily challenge can now come from any of the ten classics on the shelf. One passage a day, the same for every reader. Long titles on the shelf no longer break in the middle of a word.
