About

WordKare helps you grow your English vocabulary by solving crosswords. Clues are short, simple English definitions or sentences, and every answer is an English word. Each square makes you think about what a word means and how to spell it. HOW IT WORKS • 1,200+ crosswords and 3,900+ words across five levels, A1 to C1 • C1 · Academic covers the vocabulary core shared by IELTS, TOEFL, YDS and YÖKDİL — the words, not test tactics: there are no practice exams or score claims • A short 15-word placement test at the start; daily puzzles are picked for your level • On iPhone and iPad, with landscape and portrait on iPad • Type letters with the app's own keyboard, built for crosswords • The check button marks wrong letters • C1's 9×9 puzzles stay closed on small phones such as the iPhone SE; the 7×7 ones are open WHEN YOU GET STUCK: STEPWISE HINTS • Each press of the light bulb gives one more step: first the topic of the word (for example food or animal), then another clue for the same word, then the first letter, and last a revealed letter • The first two steps are free; a word you find with help comes back sooner in your word list MAKE WORDS STICK • Every word you solve is saved to your list, with its meaning, part of speech, level, example sentence and definition • Study asks you words again at different intervals based on your answers, and you practice by typing the English word from memory • The question format changes: type from the meaning, complete the sentence, or listen and type • Words that never appear in a puzzle can be learned with new-word cards • Every card tells you why it is being asked now • A1 and A2 words are read with pre-generated recordings (AI-generated US English); other words use your phone's voice. A word you find is read right away, and you can turn that off with the sound button on the puzzle screen HABIT • Daily streak, grown as a chain of tiles, and a daily goal • Streak protection: miss a day and your streak is safe • Badges and statistics PRIVACY • Works offline • No ads · Account optional: to sync your progress between devices • Your progress stays on your device; optionally turn on achievements and leaderboards (off by default, Game Center) If you spot a wrong clue or a word that is pronounced wrong, report it from the ••• menu on the puzzle screen.

What's New in WordKare

1.5

October 22, 2026

• A brand-new look: four tabs (Today, Puzzles, Study, Words). Today puts the daily puzzle first, and Settings is grouped in three sections. • Clay design: cards, buttons and keys look soft and raised. Switch back to Flat in Settings > Design; it works with every color pack and in dark mode. • Hear and catch (experimental): in the Study tab you listen to short English sentences and catch the words in them. For now 60 sentences from A1–A2 words, read by an AI voice; the speed is adjustable and you can turn it off in Settings. • Text size on iPad: Standard or Large in Settings > Look and sound. One size on iPhone. • Optional support: if you like, you can support WordKare with a one-time item called Tea, Coffee or Sandwich. None of them unlocks a feature; the game stays free and ad-free. If you never open the support screen, nothing is sent to the purchase service.
