A surprisingly polished app
I wasn’t expecting much, but this app has surprised me. Wrist Chess is not just the best Chess app for the Apple Watch, but a top-notch Chess app in its own right.
The UI is simple, but slick. With the gameplay, I haven’t yet noticed any lagging or glitches. Making moves is surprisingly easy on the small watch screen—for reference, I have a 45mm watch.
I was impressed by the amount of features, such as the puzzles and the live “TV” to watch ongoing games. None of these features feel unnecessary or gimmicky. They make the app better by being present.
Playing Chess on your wrist probably isn’t a concept which appeals to everyone. But for those of us who appreciate the novelty, this app implements the concept better than any other app does.
