User interface suggestions
I just downloaded Yacht Timer because the simple interface and large numbers looked great. Sadly, it’s confusing, so I suggest a change in the interface:
1. Mark ALL “expired” minutes in red;
2. Mark the “current” minute in white*;
3. Leave “future” minutes in black*.
Examples (*in Dark mode):
3:24 shows 5,4-red, 3-white, 2,1-black.
1:49 shows 5,4,3,2-red, 1 white.
0:32 shows 5,4,3,2,1-red.
Bonus suggestion #1:
Make 00 RED upon Start.

At Start, begin a count-up timer; in background for a minute or two and then revealed, in 00:01:00 format.

Simply Works - needs 2 tweaks
The app is simple and does exactly what you want it to. As noted by others, one tweak is to have the highlighted number of minutes be the number of minutes remaining. If you start a five-minute countdown, the four should be highlighted between 4:59 and 4:00. At 3:59, the three would be highlighted. The five stays highlighted until 4:00, when the four becomes highlighted.
My other suggestion is to provide haptic feedback each minute and then three quick buzzes at 30 seconds, two at 20 seconds, one at 10 seconds, one each at 5,4,3,2,1, and a longer one at 0.

Weird decision for highlighted minute
Works well and well thought out, but very strange that the highlighted minute isn’t the number of minutes left - for example, start a 5 minute timer and let it run for 30 seconds and the app will appear to display 5:30 instead of 4:30. And that 1 minute disconnect persists all the way to the end, where the last 10 seconds, for example, will be displayed with 1 highlighted, making it look like it’s 1:10. Subtracting one from the highlighted minute so that it displays the actual countdown time would be worth the 5th star!
Would also be nice to have a custom time countdown option for something other than 1,2,3,4,5 minutes.

No longer see the countdown numbers.
It worked great a year ago but now it has stopped counting down. Plus, the pitch of the beep is annoying. I uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

Does what it does so well. Great, simple timer, reliable, nice warning before abandoning countdown, great sync option near the minutes. I use this to run high school races at regattas when our start box isn’t working, and during practice all the time. Used to have a Ronstan sailing watch for this but those stop working after about 3 years for some dumb (and expensive) reason.
Only problem with this app is using it will probably lead to me dropping my phone in the river sometime. Which won’t be the app’s fault, but still.

Needs App update to run on iOS 14.6 on XR

Rubbish. Timer jumps straight to 59 seconds the instant you start it therefore losing a second. Not acceptable.
