Don’t subscribe to this through iTunes
Even though the app acknowledges I’ve subscribed via iTunes it keeps saying in cannot connect to iTunes to confirm subscription and therefore doesn’t allow me to download the editions I have subscribed to
Yet another poor update
I have used this app (and PBO) for years because it allows me to keep digital versions of the mags. The latest update has ruined this. All my purchased issues prior to 2020 are lost. The publishers, who updated the app, say speak to Apple. Apple say they can’t troubleshoot a third party app, which seems reasonable. This is very poor customer service from the publishers. Update (Feb 2022) - in Oct 2021 a message on the app said the older issues would be uploaded by the middle of Dec 2021. Still waiting. UPDATE March 2022 This message has now disappeared. Until this is done I can’t even have a chance of getting my older issues back. Every time I ask for help, I get much the same “restore purchases” spiel, which is useless. Poor, poor, poor.

New App looses previous purchases
I bought a backdated copy due to a specific boat review that I was interested in. Worked fine until they upgraded the App. I now get an error message when I try to restore my purchase from iTunes. Yachting monthly claim it’s nothing to do with them as I bought this from iTunes. Contacted iTunes who have tried a number of checks but without success. Don’t waste your money buying any yachting monthly download’s until the App works properly.

New version
New version of the app deletes all previous copies you have and will not let you sign into the new app unless you buy a new subscription- rip off and disgusting way to deal with loyal customers I shall be cancelling and moving to another magazine
Out of interest no improvements on previous app just a way squeezing more money from existing customers

Truly dreadful new app
New app denied access to account removing all previously purchased issues. You may be OK if you bought via iTunes but not from the ‘Magazines Direct’ website as it won’t recognise your credentials, even though they work on their own website.
All the app has to do is enable delivery of your magazine. The previous version did this easily and effectively; it’s a shame they had to fix something that wasn’t broken.

Good mag woeful app
Don’t do it. The app is awful. Buggier than an ants nest.
A good read
YM keeps, me informed of developments in kit, technology, regulation and other issues. It also keeps me entertained with interesting articles on cruising, boat handling and many other things to satisfy a curious sailor.
Idiotic
Who would design an app for a sailing magazine that works so badly offline! It isn't that good with a connection, keeps losing downloaded editions, terrible start up while it loads online content etc that is miserably slow offline.
Haven’t seen a single magazine since I had subscribed months ago
Rubbish service
Mr
Straightforward, and works just fine, but why can’t it open where I left off last time?
A waste of anyone’s time and money
I can’t believe how bad this experience has been. In today’s world of access and integration with cloud services occurring constantly I am amazed by how bad this is. I am now seeking redress and return of funds. Why? 1. Why do I have to wait 5 days before my DD for 6 months was accepted? Oh, and what company relies on that process anymore? 2. Even after my confirmation email arrived, the App wouldn’t accept my details initially. Finally solved but then 3. Every image of the Magazine (for clicked access) was still locked, and inApp purchase routines kicked in. I could go on, but it’s stolen enough of my time already.

Excellent content, poor app
OK, so the app simply displays the printed page. An A4 page on an iPad is never going to be great. However, it would seem that little,if any, thought has gone into the sizing and navigation features of the app. What actually needs to happen is the content needs rearranging for the new format. Admittedly a lot of work if the printed material is to remain. Therefore, more, a lot more, effort needs to be made on the navigation and zooming within the app.
A little more effort and you will have a great combination of content and app.

Great content let down by rubbish app
Other users have complained about lack of interactive content and links to video clips. While those would be great I'd be happy just to be able to zoom text to a readable size without accidentally skipping to another page, and being able to see photos clearly. Pictures depicting chart details are a total waste of time, and spoil entire articles. These bugs have been left unfixed for months - time for the app developers to get a grip!

Yachting monthly digital
Useful if, like me, you're off cruising, but I've found it difficult and more recently, impossible to download when overseas, compared for example with The Times, which I am able to get easily every day that I have a reasonable wifi signal. It's not as useful as the paper version in that it's archived on line and hard to read on a screen in bright sunlight, but better than not having it at all.
Regular updates on articles/information and use of web links would help differentiate it positively from the paper version and start creating a product that takes advantage of the digital medium.

Takes me to my favourite place.
I travel a lot and its always nice to read the well written articles and let them take you back to your favourite sailing location or memory. The app is great, easy to navigate and use and updating is very quick for such a detailed magazine. The only difficulty is the user interface when zooming and moving around the screen is occasionally a little sensitive and takes some getting used to but everything else is well worth the money.
I will be buying myself a continued subscription as a present to myself as soon as this one has expired.

Almost perfect app.....
Perfect way for viewing the latest editions of Yachting Monthly, easy to navigate and great quality of pictures.
It would get 5stars from me, but for two things - I get digital editions nearly 2 weeks after the print subscriber and there's no way of printing an article - if I had the print version, I could always photocopy notes to have in the cockpit with me, for example. With this I can't.

OK but...
An OK app but not a replacement for the real thing and not a viable electronic archive.
Poor quality when zoomed in, but takes large amounts of storage for each copy. Fuzzy text is like reading when drunk, not something I normally bother doing! This also makes reading on the train almost impossible - fuzzy text + motion = seasick. (Something I like to avoid, especially on the 7:10 into Kings Cross.)
Slow to download, very annoying that multiple downloads that are started stall and do not seem to restart if I swap apps. Download only seems to complete if i sit there watching the download bar - boring and frustrating.
I was hoping that this would become a sensible electronic archive for the magazine - i doubt it is viable as it will simply fill my iPad and make the whole device unusable with just a couple of years of older copies and indexing is not easy. Really need a way to archive/sync with storage on the computer not just on the iPad and WiFi - like many readers I go off sailing (shouldn't be a surprise), that means intermittent costly wifi so re-downloading copies just to manage space on the iPad is not a viable approach.
Active content would be good but my primary desire is really to eliminate the stacks of back-catalog magazines from my life without just throwing away the content.
I think i will just continue to scan the articles i want to keep onto my computer and archive them there and sync the PDF's to my pad... Not what i had hoped for.
Overall - a bit disappointed.

Good content - great magazine
The magazine is fantastic and definitely an essential read. The subscriptions do indeed seem to mess up from time to time which is annoying (don't change your email address). The app is a magazine with most of the features you would expect - but good to get this digitally.... N.B. issues come out slightly after the print ones.
Overall a good job, thank you.

Sort of ok
App leaves banners asking you to log in - when you are already logged in.
Having been a subscriber (in print) for several years and used the app since first release, I was forced to contact ipc after the most recent update as they had messed up the subscriptions in the update process.
They need to do more work testing the app and using it before release. I like the magazines, but breaking subscriptions and loosing all the previously downloaded magazines each time the app is updated is very poor
