Tried Two Youtube Links, Nothing
Used it on the Apple TV app and the iPhone app and nothing.
APP SPIED ON ME
Never had this happen before.
Within an hour of installing the app, I decided I didn’t actually need it, so I held down on the app button (on my home screen] and in the window I saw something incredibly disturbing:
Several files were listed from just moments ago — multiple screen recordings, multiple image files. I clicked on one and it had all my messages up!!
Without wasting time reviewing anything else it took, I deleted it, disconnected from the internet, and went to settings to turn on Lockdown Mode & shut the device off.
What happened to not collecting data? I actually read privacy policies before I download apps, so I trusted what this developer wrote and what I assumed Apple verified to be safe.

Too many problems
Playback takes ages to begin. Trying to scrub through a video will stall the playback. Turning the phone sideways won’t automatically switch video to fullscreen; you first have to open the settings panel and close it then it detects the orientation change. In short, you’re better off putting a shortcut to your Piped Instance on your homescreen. It will give you a much better experience that way.

Everything Great Except Thumbnails Not Loading
Connected to an Invidious instance, and now I can watch ad free YouTube on my phone! That is so great to have. This would be a 5 star review except for that thumbnails don’t load! I just see a gray box for each video. That’s a huge flaw, as it makes it hard to choose what videos to watch. I tried switching the thumbnail quality option in the settings, but that didn’t fix it. I hope the developers can fix this.
Another minor critique is that the search function is hidden in the “more” tab. Odd design choice to bury such an important feature.

Needs update
Has not recieved an update in over a year. This version, therefore no longer works.
Never. Works.
Always an error or video won’t play. Always. No matter the account. Truly hate this app.

Basically Newpipe for iOS
This app is great! It gives us ad-free YouTube while not supporting greedy companies like Google. It truly is magic.
Not perfect, but great for what it is
Most of the problems are caused by YouTube’s attack on invidious and piped, however it definitely has issues, beats the browser though.
Doesn’t work anymore. Don’t waste your time
As of October 4th this app cannot play YouTube videos and has zero YouTube functionality. Find something else.
Desperately need update
It use to be excellent . It the moment is just errors and more errors .it simply does not work anymore . M4 has enough power to play anything. On Apple TV is a joke losing frame like mad it more of a slideshow . Understand it a side project based on volunteers but common do something right or do not do it at all . Draw line . I could blame on my hardware my both of my wife’s iPad m2 and my iPad m4 should be enough to play YouTube video without navigating at least 4 /5 errors (server internal error …protect community. what the heck is that even mean. I am not hacking you I try to watch YouTube . It does not matter whether manifest load, custom location. 1gb fibre optic is my internet speed . Currently this app becomes unusable for me.

Excellent app
Very easy to set up, is great for driving around and playing videos in the background.
Works well.
It works well if you know how to use it. The only issues I have are with the invidious instances themselves and that’s not the app’s fault.

documentation is severely lacking in the how to use department. it has quite a bit of docs on how to fix problems though, but thats just for folks who already know how to use it

Good app however thumbnail issue needs addressing
As the title mentioned it’s a brilliant app, but when I go on a channel to browse that channels videos the thumbnails don’t load but in subscriptions and the “feed” tab they do, not only that every so often the thumbnails would just be blank all together, apart from that it’s a great app and has a simple modern looking layout which is actually really nice.
I’d love to see the DeArrow extension be supported if possible.
But the effort put into making this app shows and it’s kinda perfect (apart from the issues mentioned)

Buggy application with non-responsive devs
This app, in its current state, is just straight bad. At least two of the three issues I’m having have been reported, months ago, with absolutely no response from devs.
1 - Seek feature completely broken until video has sufficient buffer.
2 - Audio at the end of some videos gets completely cut out.
3- App crashes when playing videos in the background with the lock screen on.
Until these issues are addressed, this app is absolutely unusable. Recommendation is to avoid until devs actually give a care about fixing bugs reported months prior.

Has only gotten better with time
Over time, the user interface has been improved and options for multiple instances, playing and logging in through separate instances, and the queueing is great. Thank you so much for this app!
For anyone having issues seeing player controls in the background (I did for a while, but there’s a fix): go to settings -> controls -> toggle off “Use system controls with AVPlayer”
