User reviews

Not completely free, but not bad;I like it

For some reason I felt like the write up in the AppStore implied the app was entirely free with no paid version at all. That I can access all of the features without being nagged or annoyed by a pay wall. Evidently I either misread the blurb or it is confusingly. There is a paywall for premium features. That said, most features you could possibly want in a journal are free and there aren’t any pesky pop-up ads for silly games every five seconds, so there’s that. I’ve been using the app for three days now and it is very simple, streamlined, and easy to use. I like how calm it is and easy on the eyes. I would prefer it if the calendar screen showed my daily emoji choice on the days, but that’s not a deal breaker. I do like that the photo tab shows every picture I’ve entered so far; that’s cool. Anyway, five stars for quality, lack of ads, and beautiful simplicity.

Response from developer

Thank you for taking the time to review our app and I'm happy to hear that you like it too. We built it to be calm and easy to use so I'm glad that you think so too. Like many other apps in the App Store we offer a free and paid version of the app. You do get plenty with the free version and can keep using that with all the free features that comes with it. However, as a small husband and wife development team we also need to make our apps support our work and efforts of creating really useful apps that solves real problems. That's why we also have a paid tier of the YearDiary that unlocks all the features such as adding unlimited videos, images, voice memos and reminders, scanning images to text etc. Still, we wanted to make sure that the free version is truly useful and that's why the free tier has no intrusive restrictions or ads as it would totally destroy the "calm and easy use" feeling we are going for. At the same time we need to make our efforts sustainable and that's why we always have had a paid tier that unlocks all features. So for a small family business the paid tier is what makes it possible for us to keep building and developing apps that people love and use daily. We do not take that for granted and we are truly grateful for every user that decides to use our app. Both the free and the paid tier. And to think that this app, that we first built for our own journaling, has now reached all across the globe to many people that also love to journal is quite a surreal feeling but it's also very motivating. We (my wife and I) do hope you get much joy out of using the app and capture your memories both today and many days moving forward. If you have any questions or suggestions on how to improve the app please let us know here: contact@yeardiary.com. Kind regards, Greger
