I meannnn

I love having the app for car play purposes right? But the YouTube music app is so buns with suggesting music. Sure, the actual YouTube app learns what you like and will play those songs all the time.. and that’s kinda what I expect from the Music App. Especially with the same account. The music it plays for you makes me not want to use this app. Again, it’s just clutch for car play. That’s the only reason I still have it.

Ads interrupt tracks

Tracks keep getting interrupted by ads. This app is unusable

Tube algorithm is trash

Tube algorithm is garbage

App doesn’t work well

The censorship in tracks is so annoying! YouTube’s cheap muting ruins the songs. They’ve ruined the platform.

Buggy and weird

Cuts out frequently. Just stops the music for no reason, which is pathetic. Can’t even successfully do the on thing it claims to do - play music. Also, lots of weird UI issues because they don’t play music, rather, always trying to play the videos without showing you the video to make you think it’s a Spotify competitor. Hot garbage that should make Google ashamed (but they wont be since they don’t care about anyone ie can be evil now)

SONGS SOUND SPED UP

why do so many songs sound sped up (as if playing at 1.1x or something) i cant stand it

Not good

One of the most frustratingly user unfriendly apps i have ever experienced

Thieves

Worst thing this app did más the self adjust playlist im already listing to just because i skipped a song now it changes the whole playlist for songs I wanted less smh

Leaves a lot to ask for

App is carried heavily by its catalog of music, videos, and of course, YouTube access. However, the app itself could be heavily improved to not drain battery, start/stop music randomly, or simply improve the UI to be user friendly.

The playlist and queue UI is clunky, slow, and frankly, inefficiently adds music to both processes making it a pain.

The download feature is poor, making it hard to access when offline. Even when you’re able to access it, all the downloads take forever to load. You’ll have to constantly open and close this app for it to work. Do better YouTube, you’re a billion dollar company.

It’s amazing

Love it, but when I turn my phone off the music turns off. Overall it’s amazing

AI slop machine

This app has been completely inundated with AI music and there’s absolutely nothing being done to differentiate between what is AI and what is human…after well over a decade with YouTube Music if I don’t see this changing soon, I will be canceling my premium

Best app ever

I was gonna go to sleep and I can close the app and it will still play and I like the app since they could do that best app ever and can put up the volume and low down

Problems with Bluetooth

Skips/stops/cuts out a lot when driving with Bluetooth to car and headphones. Spotify had zero problems. What gives? Feels pretty lame.

Works fine, but lacks features

Having previously moved from Spotify and before that, Apple Music if all you’re after is a music player, then this is fine. However it’s missing a couple key features.

The biggest one for me is no offline playback on the Apple Watch. This makes it’s impossible to go for a workout without your iPhone.

The other feature is remote controlling music playing on another device. With Spotify, I can be playing music on a different device and play, pause, queue, and go to the next/previous song. The feature simply isn’t present on YouTube music.

I’ll happily change my review if those features are added, but for now it’s just a fine and nothing more.

Ehh

I liked it but eventually I had to pay to listen to music with it off which is stupid because ofc I’m gonna listen to it when my phone is off

Deep music catalog, sounds great

For YouTube users YouTube Music is a great way to stream music. The song catalog is comprehensive and the audio sounds better than Apple Music (for my taste). I also like the many daily mixes that are algorithmically made to cover a variety of genres you like. Quickly switching between song and video is another strength of YTM.

The queuing system is second to none, easily add music to play up next (long press or use the … menu), or at the end of the queue, then swipe up to move songs around in the queue. Adding music to playlists is also very quick and easy. The new ‘Samples’ is like Shorts and lets you sift through songs/videos by artists you follow, it’s a surprisingly quick way to check out music.

The downloaded library is probably the weakest part of the app, but it usually works for downloaded songs and playlists, though not as nice as when you have a network connection. Downloads can be organized by song, album or playlist, and search works. The “Library” section is also a weak point—for example often browsing through saved artists in your library will not show all the songs you’ve saved, recently I looked at an artist in my library that had 17 songs but only one was displayed when I clicked through and there was no way to see which songs were missing.

iOS has been getting better about integrating 3rd party music streaming services, so you can usually use Siri/Spotlight to find and play music on YTM, and system music controls work for Airplay as well as Chromecast. YouTube premium comes with ad-free YouTube and YTM, and the cost is discounted for an annual subscription or student subscription if you search that out.
