Stellar Platform to Learn Mandarin
Yangyang is a wonderful teacher who always has a smile on her face and is so good at relating various foreign concepts to an English speaker trying to learn. The lessons are also entertaining and succinct so you don’t ever feel overwhelmed. I enjoy having practice and quizzes at the end of each lesson. This is where Yoyo Chinese really stands apart from basic YouTube videos. I like getting the immediate feedback on how I’m doing and how much I’m retaining. If you ever get tired of just doing video lessons, there are several other resources to learn from like quizzes, flash cards, pinyin pronunciation chart, etc.
Finally, their customer service is wonderful. I had previously spent hundreds of dollars on various courses through their website back when you used to purchase them separately. I recently inquired about getting a discount for the lifetime learner package since I have already spent so much. They went above and beyond in helping me out and making sure I was 1000% satisfied. They have made a loyal customer for life.

Outstanding Teaching: Search is the missing piece
However, one critical feature is missing that prevents the app and website from feeling truly modern: search.
As a serious learner, I often want to quickly revisit a lesson or concept I studied earlier. Without a search function, finding specific content takes far, far longer than it should and disrupts learning flow.
Simply adding a search 🔍 feature across lessons would be a game-changer. It would dramatically improve usability, efficiency, and overall learning speed.
This is the one feature holding Yoyo Chinese back from a full five-star experience.
Please prioritize it. Your users will learn faster, and the platform will finally match the quality of its teaching.

Excellent
The positive:
App functions great & looks like the website. all the content is available on the app. I'm at an intermediate level because of the content (currently doing the upper intermediate course and the second character course). I love these courses because of the quick and clear explanations. A lot of info is covered; the information builds as you progress which is great because language learning involves rehearsal. I love the optional schedule for learning. Love the way the style of teaching changes as the courses get more challenging (more mandarin, interviews, and storytelling). I also love the quiz & flashcard features. Glad to see they included the downloads without having to exit the app.
Areas to improve:
The largest challenge yoyo faces is that it isn't the best for more advanced learners. I wish yoyo would create more advanced conversational courses (I believe one is already in the works and would like to know when it will be available). I would also appreciate more advanced character courses and additional comic/graded reader courses.
Summary:
Although there's room to grow for more advanced students, yoyo is excellent for beginner and intermediate learners (I'd say hsk 1 to hsk 4 or 5) due to the systematic framework and wealth of foundational & cultural information. The app is responsive and intuitive

A Hidden Gem for Truly Learning Mandarin Chinese 🎯✨
One day, a YouTuber mentioned a website with a comprehensive pīnyīn chart. I checked it out… and was amazed by how simple, clear, and effective it was. That was my first introduction to Yangyang!
After watching her free introduction video, I instantly knew: this was the resource and teacher I’d been searching for. I couldn’t believe YoyoChinese had been around for years, yet I’d never heard of it! 🤯
In just two weeks with YoyoChinese, I learned more than I had in months on Duolingo. The lessons are clear, the structure is logical, and the teaching style makes everything click. The support team is also quick and helpful.
