About
Help your child learn to write Traditional Chinese, one stroke at a time.
Zi Writer follows Taiwan's standard stroke order with Zhuyin (Bopomofo), starting with the most common characters and building up to 2,000 everyday characters, plus 500+ more from daily life and classical poems. Just a few minutes a day: there are always new characters to learn, and learned characters come back for review at the right time so they stick.
REALLY LEARN TO WRITE • Every new character goes Trace → Guided → From Memory • Instant feedback on wrong stroke order or direction, with stroke-order animations • Smart review: characters about to be forgotten come back; mastered ones appear less often • Placement test finds the right starting point so kids don't relearn what they know
NEW CHALLENGES EVERY DAY • Daily Dictation: hear a sentence, write it (791 sentences) • Idiom Dictation: learn, write, and understand chengyu (201 idioms) • Story Fill-in: 92 original stories for ages 4 to 17 — write the missing characters from the Zhuyin • Tang Poems & Classics: 86 Tang poems and the complete Three Character Classic • Themed Words: everyday words for school, sports, home, the street, and the playground, with English meanings and example sentences • Characters not learned yet can be learned on the spot
PRACTICE YOUR OWN NAME • My Own Words: type a name or any sentence and practice writing every character in it • Your lists are saved, so you can practice them again with one tap
LETTERS IN THEIR OWN HANDWRITING Kids write real handwritten letters to grandparents, family, or friends. Parents review and send them — and get to see the progress.
REWARDS SET BY PARENTS • Earn coins for finishing the daily mission, writing letters, and reading stories • Parents choose the rewards: 10 more minutes of iPad, a new book, a trip to the park • Every redemption needs a parent's passcode
FOR PARENTS • Progress reports: characters written per day, trouble characters, and which stroke goes wrong • Shareable progress cards (you can hide your child's name) • English or Chinese interface — perfect for kids growing up overseas • Works on iPad and iPhone; supports Apple Pencil and stylus-only mode
PRIVACY & PRICING • No ads, no tracking, no data collection. Progress stays on the device. • The first 20 lessons (200 characters plus Zhuyin) are free, along with dictation, stories, and more • One purchase unlocks all 254 lessons and 2,500+ characters — no subscription. Family Sharing supported.
Character shapes and stroke data: CNS11643 Chinese Standard Interchange Code, National Development Council, Taiwan (Open Government Data License v1.0). Zhuyin and example words based on the Ministry of Education's Revised Mandarin Chinese Dictionary (CC BY-ND 3.0 Taiwan).
