Zurich Fountain Tour

Zurich has 1288 public fountains. Most of them have simply stood there for centuries, and nobody looks twice. This app turns them into five walks. Every route passes fountains with something to tell: medieval water pipes, baroque warriors, a chrome-plated gull from 1938, a water playground with twenty nozzles. Each fountain comes with a watercolour, the year it was built, what it is made of, and why it is worth the detour. THE FIVE ROUTES Old Town Time Travel. 3 km, 9 fountains, six hundred years of city history between the main station and Stadelhofen. By the Lake. 3 km, 7 fountains, from Bellevue to the Zürichhorn. Flat, wheelchair accessible, easy with a pram. Spring Water Tour. 2 km, 6 fountains. A separate network has run beneath the Old Town since 1430, and you can taste it. Family Water Fun. 2 km, 4 fountains. A change of clothes is not a suggestion. Art & Stone. 2.5 km, 7 fountains, more geology than some university seminars. During Easter week a sixth appears: the Rosenbrunnen route, 1.2 km, four fountains. It shows up on its own and leaves again after Easter. THE MAP Every fountain in the city, sorted into spring water and city water. Public toilets can be switched on. Each fountain shows location, year, material and owner from the City of Zurich open data set. NO SIGNAL NEEDED Map, routes, images and texts all live inside the app. No data used, no hunting for reception, no loading bar halfway down an alley. WHAT IT COSTS The fountain map and the Family Water Fun route are free. All other routes unlock with a single purchase. No subscription, no ads, no account.
