Verdict
Outwalk and Red Tomatoes both sit at 4.7 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Red Tomatoes's written reviews are positive against 46% of Outwalk's. Red Tomatoes also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 1) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months). Outwalk's advantage is ratings volume (2.1K vs 15). On price, rating, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Outwalk sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Red Tomatoes asks for nothing beyond the download.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Outwalk against 4.6 for Red Tomatoes. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Outwalk has 2.1K ratings behind it against 15, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 46% of Outwalk's written reviews are positive against 100% of Red Tomatoes's.
Outwalk ships an update every 3 months, Red Tomatoes fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 18, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
