HearApp helps people with listening challenges learn to hear better. It's the perfect exercise plan for children and adults with hearing loss looking to achieve optimal hearing. Rooted in research and praised by users and audiologists alike, the app is fun, effective, affordable, and easy to use—at home or in clinic. How it works: HearApp takes you through a series of auditory exercises. You'll practice identifying and discriminating words and phrases in quiet and with background noise. A pre-test places you or your child at the appropriate practice level. Visual prompts, repetition, and other listening helpers provide support along the way. Your progress is saved automatically and used by HearApp to personalize your listening sessions. Our goal: HearApp is the result of several years of hearing research by BioSpeech, Inc., a biomedical research company located in Portland, Oregon, specializing in speech and hearing technology. The goal of HearApp is to build the listening skills of individuals with hearing loss, so that they can comprehend the language in their environment. With HearApp, individuals with hearing loss can begin to discriminate and identify the speech sounds in the spoken language around them. Background: In the United States, there are roughly 35 million individuals with some degree of hearing loss. Of these people, around 10 million have hearing aids and 67,000 have cochlear implants. Intensive auditory rehabilitation training is needed to fully realize the potential benefit of these devices and fully hear and understand speech. Face-to-face training with a specialist is expensive and not always accessible. HearApp aims to make auditory rehabilitation training more accessible for children and adults alike.
LangCI
Read full descriptionHide full description
LangCI is an auditory-verbal training companion for cochlear implant users and their families. WHAT IT DOES Practice listening, speaking, and pronunciation with drills built around voices you actually hear every day. Record a family member once — a parent, partner, or child — and LangCI uses those familiar voices throughout your training sessions. That familiarity makes practice dramatically easier, especially for new implant recipients adjusting to how speech sounds through their processor. BUILT FOR CI USERS - Familiar-voice drills — train with voices you love - Reading-aloud exercises with pronunciation feedback - Multi-language and dialect support, because your family doesn't all speak the same way - Baseline frequency tuning for specific implant programs - Progress tracking and milestones so you can see improvement over time - Session history you can share with your audiologist or auditory-verbal therapist - Ling 6 sound check, fatigue journal, and confusion log for detailed self-monitoring PRIVATE BY DESIGN Everything stays on your device. LangCI has no accounts, no cloud sync, no analytics, and no ads. Your recordings never leave your iPhone or iPad. No sign-up, no email required — just open the app and start training. DESIGNED FOR EVERYONE Large tap targets, Dynamic Type, VoiceOver support, and high-contrast modes throughout. Works on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. IMPORTANT — NOT A MEDICAL DEVICE LangCI is a general-purpose auditory training aid, not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent hearing loss, cochlear implant malfunction, or any other medical condition. Always consult a qualified audiologist, ENT, or auditory-verbal therapist for hearing assessments, device programming, and therapy decisions. Built with love for the CI community. Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: LangCI at none against HearApp's 1. LangCI also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 20 months). HearApp's advantage is device support (4 vs 2) and iOS requirement (14.0 vs 17.0). On price and ads there is nothing between them.
