Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: QR Pro at none against Photo QR Reader's shown. QR Pro also leads on ratings volume (29K vs 14) and update cadence (weekly vs every 5 weeks). Photo QR Reader's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 4.5). On price, in-app purchases and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Photo QR Reader holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: QR Pro has 29K ratings behind it against 14, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 73% of QR Pro's written reviews are positive against 50% of Photo QR Reader's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
QR Pro ships an update weekly, Photo QR Reader every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and September 25, 2026 respectively.
