Today memes have become an integral part of the web, and there are numerous apps to create new ones. However, memes have different formats, which change over time, so very often you need to download different apps depending on the meme format you want to create. Freestyle Meme Creator, on the other hand, allows a very high level of flexibility in the creation of memes. In fact, not only is it possible to choose between two types of formats, but it is possible to customize every single format. For example, if you want to create a "Starter Pack" meme, you can select "Grid Meme", set a header, add four cells with "1: 1" aspect ratio. If you want to create a "Brain Meme" you can add 4 rows and 4 columns and choose "16: 9" as the aspect ratio. Furthermore, it is obviously possible to create the classic top bottom memes. Another peculiarity of the app is that it already has dozens of template images available, such as "Brain", "Cereal Guy", "Stonks" and much more. In addition, you can add as many images as you want from the Gallery, Camera or Google Photo. Finally, if you administer a page or blog and have your own logo, you can choose to automatically add it to every meme you create to prevent freebooting. What are you waiting for? Change the way you create memes and download Freestyle Meme Creator now!

Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Freestyle Meme Creator at 100% against FailArmy's 54%. Freestyle Meme Creator also leads on update cadence (every 3 days vs every 3 months) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 15.6). FailArmy's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 3.9) and in-app purchases (none vs 1). On price and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Freestyle Meme Creator sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. FailArmy asks for nothing beyond the download.
FailArmy holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: FailArmy has 1.7K ratings behind it against 14, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 54% of FailArmy's written reviews are positive against 100% of Freestyle Meme Creator's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
FailArmy ships an update every 3 months, Freestyle Meme Creator every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and September 25, 2026 respectively.
