Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Lightning Alarm at 80% against Weather Sat's 33%. Lightning Alarm also leads on ratings volume (890 vs 1). Weather Sat's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.5) and in-app purchases (none vs 4). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Lightning Alarm sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per year. Weather Sat asks for nothing beyond the download.
Weather Sat holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Lightning Alarm has 890 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 80% of Lightning Alarm's written reviews are positive against 33% of Weather Sat's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Lightning Alarm ships an update every 2 months, Weather Sat every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
