Whimsy Weather draws the weather instead of tabulating it. The top half of the screen is a hand-drawn landscape under a real sky: the Sun and the Moon are where they actually are, the Moon shows its true phase, and the rain, snow, cloud and wind in the picture are the ones in the forecast. The bottom half is the numbers. A SKY THAT IS ACTUALLY THE SKY Sunrise, sunset, twilight and the midnight sun are computed, not faked. At 64°N in June the sky never goes fully dark, because it doesn't. NINETY-EIGHT PLACES, ALL OF THEM ALIVE Hills, farm, beach, harbour, desert, lake, the tropics — each with something the wind moves. Taipei 101 shows the cloud base by the floor that disappears into it; the Golden Gate's span is a ruler for visibility. TWENTY-ONE FAMOUS MOUNTAINS Each reads one thing: Alishan's sea of clouds is the night's inversion, the banner off the Matterhorn is the summit wind, Taroko's river runs jade or brown with the last three days' rain, and the Dolomites turn pink in a low Sun. FIFTY-FIVE PLACES IN MINIATURE Cities as tabletop models — Old Taipei, Kyoto, London, Prague — with clouds and their shadows drifting over and the real Sun and Moon above. From up here you see what the rain did: puddles, snow on roofs, rivers rising. THE VIEW FROM A WINDOW A plane, high-speed rail, a car, a train and a bus. Rain on the glass is a speedometer: straight down at a red light, flat at 300 km/h. A WORLD CLOCK WITH LANDMARKS Every saved city on one 24-hour dial, ringed by landmarks that turn with the time and light their windows at night, with each city's weather drawn over its own. WARNINGS, AND HONESTY ABOUT WHERE THEY CAME FROM Where a national weather service publishes warnings the app reads them and names the issuer — the US National Weather Service, or MeteoAlarm for Europe. Everywhere else its own advisories are derived from the forecast, and say so. SEVEN WIDGETS ON THE HOME SCREEN Tonight's sky with the true Moon, today's conditions, the five-day outlook, what to wear — and the scene itself. YOURS, IN YOUR UNITS Every unit switches on its own, or follows your region. Each place can have its own scene. English, Français, 繁體中文, 简体中文 and 日本語. PRIVATE BY DEFAULT No account. No analytics. No advertising. The forecast comes from MET Norway, or with Pro from Apple's own WeatherKit, and searching for a place goes through Apple's frameworks — so the only thing that leaves your phone is where you want the weather for. FREE, SOURCES AND PRO Free keeps one saved place plus wherever you are, with the full conditions panel, the hourly and five-day forecasts, and warnings and advisories; its forecast comes from MET Norway. Pro adds Apple Weather, with next-hour rain where Apple has radar, unlimited places, the seven widgets, the other ninety-seven places, the world clock and the timeline to scrub hour by hour. Subscribe, or buy it once and keep it. Sources is a one-time purchase with everything in Pro except Apple Weather: MET Norway out of the box, or OpenWeatherMap, WeatherAPI.com, Pirate Weather and others with your own free API key — or several at once. NOT A WARNING SERVICE This is a weather app for looking at, not a safety system. For decisions that matter, follow your national weather service. SUBSCRIPTION TERMS Whimsy Weather Pro (Monthly) is US$2 per month and Whimsy Weather Pro (Yearly) is US$18 per year; both renew automatically.
