Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Minipad at none against Typesy's 3. Minipad also leads on review sentiment (86% vs 63%). Typesy's advantage is update cadence (monthly vs every 4 months) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). On price, rating, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Typesy sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $8.99 per month. Minipad asks for nothing beyond the download.
Typesy holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.3. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 408 and 188 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 86% of Minipad's written reviews are positive against 63% of Typesy's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Minipad ships an update every 4 months, Typesy monthly. Both last shipped on October 21, 2026.
