Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: PCL Mobile at 100% against BookBub's 54%. PCL Mobile also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and iOS requirement (16.0 vs 26.0). BookBub's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 6 months) and ratings volume (960 vs 2). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
PCL Mobile holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: BookBub has 960 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 54% of BookBub's written reviews are positive against 100% of PCL Mobile's.
BookBub ships an update every 3 weeks, PCL Mobile every 6 months. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
