Verdict
The clearest difference is ratings volume: BookBub at 961 against Altoona Library Mobile's 24. BookBub also leads on chart position (#31 vs unranked). Altoona Library Mobile's advantage is device support (3 vs 1) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 26.0). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for BookBub against 4.9 for Altoona Library Mobile. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: BookBub has 961 ratings behind it against 24, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
