Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: SmartBar Mobile at none against Grunt Style's shown. SmartBar Mobile also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and review sentiment (100% vs 82%). Grunt Style's advantage is ratings volume (18K vs 5) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for Grunt Style against 5.0 for SmartBar Mobile. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Grunt Style has 18K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 82% of Grunt Style's written reviews are positive against 100% of SmartBar Mobile's.
Grunt Style ships an update every 3 weeks, SmartBar Mobile every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
