Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: WordCrex at 4.2 against NRC Puzzels's 3.3. WordCrex also leads on ratings volume (25 vs 3). NRC Puzzels's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 60%) and in-app purchases (none vs 7). On price, update cadence, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

WordCrex holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 3.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: WordCrex has 25 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of WordCrex's written reviews are positive against 100% of NRC Puzzels's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

WordCrex ships an update every 2 weeks, NRC Puzzels every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
