Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Fish at 5.0 against Balls vs. Pixels's 4.0. Fish also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 2) and ads (none vs shown). Balls vs. Pixels's advantage is update cadence (every 6 weeks vs every 7 months) and ratings volume (60 vs 4). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Balls vs. Pixels sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Fish asks for nothing beyond the download.
Fish holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Balls vs. Pixels has 60 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 92% of Fish's written reviews are positive against 100% of Balls vs. Pixels's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Fish ships an update every 7 months, Balls vs. Pixels every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on July 24, 2026 and September 24, 2026 respectively.
