Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: USMLE at 4.7 against Bullets*'s 4.0. USMLE also leads on ratings volume (5K vs 61). Bullets*'s advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and update cadence (every 8 days vs every 6 weeks). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. USMLE sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $49.99 per month. Bullets* asks for nothing beyond the download.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

USMLE holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: USMLE has 5K ratings behind it against 61, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 68% of Bullets*'s written reviews are positive against 49% of USMLE's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Bullets* ships an update every 8 days, USMLE every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 11, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
