Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Lie Detector Test at none against Why You Lying?'s 1. Lie Detector Test also leads on rating (3.4 vs 3.0) and ratings volume (1.6K vs 81). Why You Lying?'s advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 42 months). On price and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Why You Lying? sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Lie Detector Test asks for nothing beyond the download.
Lie Detector Test holds the better App Store score, 3.4 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Lie Detector Test has 1.6K ratings behind it against 81, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 47% of Why You Lying?'s written reviews are positive against 36% of Lie Detector Test's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Why You Lying? ships an update every 2 months, Lie Detector Test every 42 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
