Walking, Running and other Aerobic activities are great ways to be active and stay healthy. This app is a great way to track the steps you take every day and over the past week or month. The app works great with the iPhone and iPod Touch and it also works great with the Apple Watch. The developer has tested this app around the world - from Mt Rainier snowshoeing in the US to hiking snowy hills in Antarctica, from quiet Seattle suburban streets to the bustling city streets of Madurai, India, Santiago, Chile and more, Marcher sur les marches de la tour Eiffel, Paris and walking around Stanley Park, Canada Features include 1. Review your steps for today, yesterday, last week and last month on the iPhone (iPhone 5S or later), iPod Touch (6th generation) or Apple Watch 2. Easy to use 3. Privacy: We don’t track your personally identifiable information like name, phone number etc. This app doesn’t ask for location information and we have never provided user information to any third party. 4. Automatic Step Counting: The app works as if it were always on and it continuously tracks your steps (as long as you’re either carrying your iPhone or iPodTouch with you OR you’re wearing your Apple Watch). The app works at all locations, regardless of how you carry the iPhone, iPod Touch or Watch (hands, pockets, purse, wrist etc.) 5. Goal setting: Do you want the standard 10,000 step goal or do you a want goal of 2,100 steps/day or perhaps 25,000 steps a day. Setting the right goal can motivate you to walk more and this app lets you customise your goals. 6. Battery use efficiency: The app doesn’t use battery resources when it isn’t running. It uses the battery efficiently when it is running. It doesn’t use GPS features. 7. Health news (based on new and old medical research) from within the app 8. Free customer support The app uses Apple's HealthKit API and integrates with Apple's Health App to obtain, process and display information on the steps walked or run and distance covered while walking or running

Duffy provides quick access to your step count directly on your Apple Watch face as a complication. I was surprised to find that a steps complication wasn’t included on Apple Watches out of the box. Being a veteran iOS developer, I decided to build one in my spare time. I really loved my prototype version and thought there were more people who would love it too. So I put in the extra effort to release it to the App Store for everyone! Duffy is completely free, has no ads, and is even open source so if you’re also a developer, you can help me enhance it. Duffy is a simple app, but it will probably turn into the most used app on your Apple Watch. No more opening the Activity app and scrolling around to find your steps. It’s now available at a glance. Duffy is more than just an elegant Apple Watch complication. Use the full watch app for easy access to your steps, flights climbed and distance travelled for today and the past week. Set a daily steps goal and be notified on your watch when you reach it. The companion iPhone app provides the same access to your steps, flights and distance on a much larger, easier-to-read surface while also allowing you to dig deeper into your data to see trends and statistics over time. Duffy reads the steps, flights climbed, distance travelled, and activity energy from your iPhone and Apple Watch from the Health app (via the HealthKit API).

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Duffy at 4.7 against Steps, The Pedometer App's 4.2. Duffy also leads on ratings volume (757 vs 5). Steps, The Pedometer App's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and review sentiment (100% vs 84%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Steps, The Pedometer App sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Duffy sells 4 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Duffy holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Duffy has 757 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Steps, The Pedometer App's written reviews are positive against 84% of Duffy's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Steps, The Pedometer App ships an update every 3 months, Duffy every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
