Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Steps, The Pedometer App at none against Pedometer's shown. Steps, The Pedometer App also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and review sentiment (100% vs 84%). Pedometer's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.2) and ratings volume (939 vs 5). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Steps, The Pedometer App sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Pedometer sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Pedometer holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Pedometer has 939 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Steps, The Pedometer App's written reviews are positive against 84% of Pedometer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 18, 2026 respectively.
