Hitori is one of the puzzle game. The rule is simple. Hitori is played with a grid of squares or cells, and each cell contains a number. The objective is to eliminate numbers by filling in the squares such that remaining cells do not contain numbers that appear more than once in either a given row or column. Filled-in cells cannot be horizontally or vertically adjacent, although they can be diagonally adjacent. The remaining un-filled cells must form a single component connected horizontally and vertically.

Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Roll at 78% against Hitori's 40%. Roll also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (439 vs 6). Hitori's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and rating (4.8 vs 4.6). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Roll sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Hitori asks for nothing beyond the download.
Hitori holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Roll has 439 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 40% of Hitori's written reviews are positive against 78% of Roll's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Hitori ships an update every 2 months, Roll weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
