London Explorer vs Let's Get Lost

A free interactive guide to London and its history, featuring over 100 famous, quirky and vanished locations. Visiting London, or think you already know everything about it? Then think again – there's always something new to learn about London! This app includes: Explorer: view over 100 London locations alphabetically, or by those nearest to you. Interact with historic maps of each location, and then view the location mapped on the London of today. Read about the history of each place and interact with historic and contemporary images. Search for anything that interests you – for example, search for "Shakespeare" to find any locations in the app associated with Shakespeare. Map Explorer: view the same locations as in the Explorer, but in an interactive map format instead. Tap on a location to explore it in more detail. Old Maps: explore three historic maps of London – Roman London, London in around 1563 (the time of Queen Elizabeth I) and Hollar's beautiful map of London in the 17th century. Panoramas: explore three historic panoramas of London as seen from south of the river Thames. Wyngaerde's panorama from 1543, Visscher's panorama from 1616 and Hollar's panorama from 1647. With nearly 400 images, more than 200 historic map images and over 100 locations, London Explorer provides a novel way to get to know this great city and its history. Future planned updates include a host of new locations and new features. Watch this space! Let’s Get Lost is an immersive, sonic map of an inner city wilderness. Bring your headphones and lose yourself in the lost voices and forgotten layers hidden in the woodland, all waiting to be heard. The app triggers stories using GPS, letting you walk in and out of the audio as you wander. There is no set route, no wrong or right way to go. Simply press go, pop your phone in your pocket and leave it there. The last of London’s magnificent seven cemeteries, Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park is a magical place and the largest urban woodland in London. These recordings are a mixture of interviews, field recordings and archival recordings from the British Library and have been made to listen to whilst wandering the cemetery park’s winding paths, revealing more than you can see. See if you can hear the invisible chapel, meet Rabbit who catches bats and Christopher who got lost at sea. Charlie Brown had a pub full of monkeys and the largest funeral the East End had ever seen. Hear tales of surviving doodlebugs and playing with shrapnel, and a circle of horses who snuffle in your ears. These are just some of the 28 intimate, audio portraits waiting for you in the park. We would quite happily live in the cemetery park but feel free to come for twenty minutes or lose yourself for a couple of hours. You can always come back, take a different path and discover something new. Stories can last from 20 seconds to 10 minutes, there is plenty to hear. Find them or let them find you.
