Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: NDI Player at 3.8 against HDMI's 2.3. NDI Player also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (18 vs 6). HDMI's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 4) and review sentiment (33% vs 25%). On price, ads, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. NDI Player sells 4 one-off in-app purchases. HDMI asks for nothing beyond the download.
NDI Player holds the better App Store score, 3.8 against 2.3. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 6 and 18 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 33% of HDMI's written reviews are positive against 25% of NDI Player's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
HDMI ships an update every 3 months, NDI Player fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on September 20, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
