In cataract surgery, when opting to place the intraocular lens in the ciliary sulcus rather than the capsular bag, a reduction in lens power is often necessary. This adjustment is required because, as the optic is shifted more anteriorly toward the cornea, its effective power increases. The degree of this adjustment depends on the base power of the intraocular lens, with a proportional increase in the difference as the lens power rises. This application offers a scale for calculating values within a standard range of base powers. The calculation assumes that the central corneal power falls within the normal range. \n\nThe resulting numbers are applicable for use with most modern posterior chamber intraocular lenses. The estimated effective lens position for the ciliary sulcus is 4.70 mm, while the assumed effective lens position for the capsular bag is 5.20 mm. IOL Refocus does not provide medical or treatment advice and should not be regarded as such by the user. This tool is designed to assist physicians in choosing the appropriate IOL for a specific patient. It is intended to be utilized alongside a comprehensive ophthalmic examination, as well as the requisite diagnostic tests and measurements necessary for surgery. The calculator's results are not intended to function as medical or surgical instructions, nor are they definitive. The developer cannot guarantee the accuracy of results in every case. Physicians using the tool must independently determine the appropriate treatment for their patients and bear sole responsibility for the refractive outcome. By using it, you waive any claims against IOL Refocus and authors. The calculator's information is provided without warranty, and neither developer nor individuals associated with the app are liable for damages or errors.
