Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Masterbezel at 4.0 against Ruler's 2.6. Masterbezel also leads on update cadence (every 4 days vs every 5 months) and review sentiment (71% vs 54%). Ruler's advantage is monetization model (free vs paid) and ratings volume (40 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Masterbezel holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 2.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Ruler has 40 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Ruler ships an update every 5 months, Masterbezel every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
