Have you (or maybe one of your friends) ever wanted to learn to transcribe or play music by ear? It is so important for a musician to know what you are hearing. A good musical ear helps when you are composing, improvising, transcribing melodies, or playing with others. Most likely you have already tried different programs to learn to recognize intervals or even to acquire perfect pitch. However, although such programs develop your ear, but can you actually play any melody you hear as soon as you listen to it? Imagine you could understand music... It is like when somebody is talking to you, you not only hear pleasant sounds, but you recognize words and their meaning. One day I came across Alain Benbassat's program called "Functional Ear Trainer" and have been using it ever since. It is based on Alain's method to learn to recognize tones. The main difference between the Functional Ear Trainer and other methods is that it teaches you to distinguish between tones in the context of a particular musical key. You begin to recognize the role (or function) of each tone in this key, which is incredibly similar to its role in other keys of the same scale. And it is *guaranteed* anyone can gradually develop this skill. It does not matter: - who you are - an absolute beginner in music or a virtuoso professional musician; - how old you are - a 3 yo kid or a 90+ adult; - what musical instrument you play (you don't even have to play one). The only requirement is to practice for 10 minutes a day. I was so excited about this ear trainer that I have developed a mobile app based on the Alain Benbassat method. I hope you will find it useful.

Hear a note and name it. Step-by-step lessons for absolute pitch, solfège, intervals and chords, a 10-question pitch test and a daily challenge. All tones are synthesized in the app. [Lessons] - Absolute Pitch: name notes with no reference note, starting with two white keys and adding one note per lesson up to all 12, then wider ranges and other instruments. - Solfège: after a reference chord in the key, tell which step of the scale the note is, first in C major and then in other keys. - Intervals & Chords: name the interval between two notes, then tell major, minor, diminished and augmented triads apart. - 3 paths, 7 chapters, 33 lessons. Each lesson has 10 questions. On a wrong answer the lesson stops so you can play the correct answer and your own answer. - Earn up to 3 stars per lesson. The next lesson in a chapter opens after 1 star. Each chapter has a 15-question test: 13 correct answers pass it and open every lesson in that chapter. - From a lesson result, redo only the questions you missed. [Pitch Test] Ten questions that mix relative pitch (which note is higher, name the interval, melodic direction) and absolute pitch (name the note you hear). The result shows a score for each part and a pitch type, plus a suggested lesson. Open the question list to replay every question. [Daily Challenge] A new set of questions every day, the same for everyone on the same date. [Practice and Ear Training] Play the keyboard freely across octaves, with note names shown or hidden. In Ear Training, hear a note and find it on the keyboard; after a wrong answer the correct note plays, and you can replay it or skip ahead. Choose piano, electric piano, guitar or flute. [Guess This Note Pro] Pro is a one-time in-app purchase. It removes all ads, including the ones between lessons, and unlocks Custom Training, where you build your own drills by note type, difficulty and length. All lessons, tests and the daily challenge are available without Pro. Purchases can be restored from the Pro screen.
