Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Easy Chess ™ at none against Chess's shown. Easy Chess ™ also leads on review sentiment (64% vs 46%). Chess's advantage is update cadence (every 4 weeks vs every 13 months) and rating (4.9 vs 4.5). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Easy Chess ™ sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Chess sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Chess holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess has 6.8K ratings behind it against 504, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 64% of Easy Chess ™'s written reviews are positive against 46% of Chess's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Easy Chess ™ ships an update every 13 months, Chess every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 30, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
