Use SFTP to access files and folders in the cloud or on the home network, served by the SSH/Secure File Transfer Protocol. SFTP provides the connection, making the remote files available for the rest of the phone: for all apps that are using the standard iOS file selector, including the Files app itself. After installing SFTP, open the app, and add your remote servers. Then, from the Files app, go to Browse/Locations and enable the new location provider called "SFTP". Power users can add unlimited number of servers with the in-app purchase "SFTP Pro". This is a one-time purchase unlocking all premium features in the app.

Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: SFTP File Provider at 50% against Telnet Client Terminal's 21%. Telnet Client Terminal's advantage is rating (3.3 vs 2.9) and iOS requirement (10.0 vs 18.0). On price, ratings volume, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Telnet Client Terminal sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and SFTP File Provider sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Telnet Client Terminal holds the better App Store score, 3.3 against 2.9. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 27 and 14 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 21% of Telnet Client Terminal's written reviews are positive against 50% of SFTP File Provider's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Telnet Client Terminal ships an update every 4 months, SFTP File Provider every 2 months. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
